Every Wednesday I post my recommendations of the best of last week’s postings concerning wine, whether blogs or news. I list them in the order I read them, so you shouldn’t infer anything about the order in which I list these posts.
Not much this week, but with the holidays, I guess that’s not surprising. Though I am noting that the last month has been pretty skimpy on articles I can recommend. Hopefully, that changes with the new year.
The Future With the Three-Tier System
A short concise overview of how we got the three-tier system, the bane of wine producers but probably here to stay for the foreseeable future. I don’t mind the three-tier system nearly so much as that it’s different in every state, a regulatory nightmare. It would be nice if we could have one set of rules, almost any set of rules, instead of this mess. In some states, the regulations seem to constitute a form of quasi-prohibition, in others a means for the existing distribution networks to avoid competition, in others just mindless regulation with no apparent purpose.
