by Jeff Miller of Artisan Family of Wines (Seven Artisans, Sly Dog Cellars, Red Côte)Every Wednesday I post my recommendations of the best of last week’s postings concerning wine, whether blogs or news. I list them in the order I read them, so you shouldn’t infer anything about the order in which I list these posts.
Coravin and the Future of Wine-by-the-Glass
I have no idea if this gadget is as good as Vinography says it is in preserving wine, but if it is it’s probably worth it for most wine consumers, even at a pricey $300. Coravin has been getting a lot of press of late, but maybe it’s deserved.
I have always thought in terms of how much wine comes from a ton of grapes (roughly 60 cases) or from an acre (roughly 300 cases). But I’ve never really thought about how much comes from a single vine. Jo addresses this and many other metrics of wine production.
Wine Safety: Should you be Concerned?
I was a little surprised to see that there are actually some adverse health affects from some of the ingredients that can show up in wine, albeit they are extremely rare. Wine itself is pretty close to being about as safe as can be (except maybe from the effects of overindulgence), since pretty much nothing harmful to people can survive in it.
