Wark makes an eloquent case for getting a case of wine and tasting it over the years.  How it changes, goes through phases, and ultimately matures into something special, or not.  I really enjoyed this post, even though I basically disagree with it.  I don’t doubt that some wines justify this exercise, but they are really so few as to be almost inconsequential.  The vast majority of wines past 10 years are just old and dead.

Flash!  Wine experts can’t tell expensive and cheap wines apart unless they can see the label.  A point well worth making (again and again) but hardly news.

Riesling is my favorite white wine, but I’m in a very small minority in that regard.  Still, it’s good to see it getting some recognition.

I really appreciated this post because it acknowledges what in a way is obvious except that it runs counter to the way most people view wines.  The essence of this post is that wine can be a great wine to one person, even if others don’t find it at all special.  But that’s the way wine (and people and the interaction between the two) are.  There are no great wines for everybody, only great wines for those people who find them great.
